Arsenal transfer news: €30m ex-Bolton striker linked; Ntep's real reason for London visit

All the latest transfer news and gossip from The Emirates Stadium.

The news breaking last night, and carrying into the morning, was that Arsenal were preparing to make a move for Schalke 04 playmaker Julian Draxler.

The German international has long been linked with a move to Arsenal but the initial thought process was that he would only make such a move in the summer - when his release clause of €45 million kicks in - but it is now believed Schalke could do business earlier at the same price.

They are currently looking into the possibility of signing Lewis Holtby back from Tottenham - and that could very well open up the opportunity for such a deal to happen.

€8m rated striker Paul Georges-Ntep sent Twitter into a frenzy at the weekend when he posted a picture of himself on the way to London via Eurostar.

It immediately saw rumours and conjecture flying around that he had agreed to meet with Arsenal officials over a potential move from AJ Auxerre.

That no longer seems to be the case.

In fact it seems that QPR was his destination. Reports now suggest that Harry Redknapp invited him to London to have a look before he made a decision on his future.

However, French Ligue 1 side Rennes have agreed a fee with Auxerre for the player’s services … and he is expected to make a decision on his future in the coming days.

However, it looks increasingly likely he will not be joining Arsenal.

Arsenal are being linked with former Bolton loanee Rodrigo. The Spaniard, who spent the 2010-11 season on loan at the Reebok Stadium, is a Spanish under-21 international - scoring 15 goals in 16 games at that level.

He has recently been in good form for Benfica - but they are open for a sale.

The report claims a €30 million move to Russia has fell through - and Benfica are now willing to offer him to The Gunners.
