Report: Astori fails to impress Moyes, but Everton and Saints hover

David Moyes

Manchester United boss David Moyes was reportedly disappointed by Davide Astori's performance for Cagliari against Juventus.

David Moyes was spotted watching Juventus' 4-1 win at Cagliari's Stadio Sant'Elia last weekend and there are reports in Italy that one of the men he was scouting, Davide Astori, failed to impress.

The Manchester United boss has claimed that he was simply on holiday in Sardinia, but the media have other ideas as to why he was watching the game.

United have been linked with several of the players on show, including Juventus stars Paul Pogba, Claudio Marchisio and Arturo Vidal and Cagliari defender Astori.

Giant centre-back Astori, who is 27, has made 140 appearances for Cagliari and has broken into the Italian national side, winning seven caps.

However, Moyes chose a bad night to watch Astori as his Cagliari side were put to the sword by a rampant Juventus.

The Bianconeri ran out 4-1 winners and according to the Daily Mail, Astori didn't make a good impression on Moyes and could be scribbled off Manchester United's shopping list.

However, Italian website Tuttomercatoweb points out that failing Moyes' assessment doesn't mean Astori couldn't relocate to the Premier League.

The site insists that Astori has other suitors in England, including Everton and Southampton, who could step in with a bid.

However, the price tag may be prohibitive for either side as Astori is tipped to be worth around £10m - he is under contract at the Stadio Sant'Elia until June 2015.
