Pellegrini confirms fringe star to go on loan – end of the line at City?

John Guidetti will leave the Etihad Stadium on a temporary deal this month, with his future at the club in doubt.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has today confirmed that John Guidetti will be allowed to leave the club on loan in January.

The Sweden international is desperate for regular first-team football, but has been on the fringes at the Etihad Stadium due to the sheer amount of talent at the Chilean manager’s disposal.

Stoke have been accredited with an interest in the 21-year-old, and Pellegrini has confirmed that the Scandinavian is free to find a new club for the rest of the season.

“Yes, John is going on loan,” the former Malaga head coach admitted.

“I don’t know if he has already arranged with Stoke, but he is going on loan.”

If the Swede does seal a move to the Potters he will be reunited with former manager Mark Hughes.

Big things were expected of Guidetti after a phenomenal loan spell at Feyenoord in 2011-12, where he scored 20 Eredivisie goals in 23 appearances.

However, since returning to England the talented striker has not been given a chance to play in the City first-team, with the likes of Edin Dzeko, Alvaro Negredo and Sergio Aguero established as the side’s strikers.

When Guidetti leaves on loan, the likelihood of him sealing a permanent switch elsewhere will be increased, with the Swede needing to do something drastic to even stand a chance of first-team consideration at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite being on the club’s books since 2008, Guidetti has never made a senior appearance for City.
