Marko Marin has suggested people will start comparing him to Lionel Messi again as he returns to full fitness.
On loan Chelsea star Marko Marin says people can start comparing him to Barcelona’s Lionel Messi again.
Marin is on loan with Sevilla until the end of the season and has revealed that now he’s getting over a hamstring problem, people can soon start comparing him to arguably the best player to have ever graced the game as they did at the start of the season.
“I'm feeling great here. Club, team, fans - it all fits. The people of Spain love me. I was being compared to Messi. If I'm fully fit again, these comparisons come back,” he told German newspaper and website Bild.
Marin has had a decent season with Sevilla when he’s been available with 13 appearances in all competitions producing two goals and four assists.
However, whether he can get anywhere close to the level and skill that Barcelona’s Messi produces is more than just debatable.
It’s encouraging for Chelsea fans to see one of their on loan stars so full of confidence, with a little bit of arrogance which will help him succeed if he’s given a chance at Stamford Bridge again in the future.
However, he mustn’t get carried away because every time he makes an open statement like this, there are going to be just as many wanting him to fail as want him to succeed.
“I would like to stay, I like it really well. But ultimately, says Chelsea what happens,” he added.
