Lazio's 'Prophet' the key to £15m man's Chelsea move

Inter Milan

Inter are in hot pursuit of Lazio’s Hernanes, with a Chelsea target possibly playing a central role in the deal.

Apart from interest in Erik Lamela, Inter Milan have found themselves most discussed on these shores for the potential sale of Fredy Guarin to the Blues – with the protracted saga still ongoing.

Last week the San Siro giants were believed to have given the West London outfit an ultimatum, mandating an official offer be tabled by Tuesday for negotiations to ensue.

An announcement is still yet to arrive on whether Chelsea have submitted a formal bid, though the Italians’ own ambitions on the market may see them more amenable to extending their deadline.

President Erick Thohir admitted on Monday that Guarin wouldn’t be held hostage with a ‘big club’ interested whilst funds would need to be raised for new additions to be made.

And the Indonesian magnate’s words may indeed have been foreshadowing – as late in the evening such a scenario was revealed to be unfolding.

Sky Sport Italia correspondent Gianluca Di Marzio has contended that Inter are keen on Hernanes – personally requested by boss Walter Mazzarri.

The Lazio playmaker had previously been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur amdist floundering talks on a contract extension at the Stadio Olimpico.

Di Marzio has maintained that Inter have met with the Brazilian’s entourage and agreed personal terms on a four-year deal worth €2.5m per term post-tax.

However, the final piece to the puzzle is Guarin, who would need to be flogged off to procure the £14m required by Lazio to part with their star performer.

It has been suggested that Inter have demanded at least £15m for the Colombia international, a figure more than enough to cover the Biancocelesti’s asking price for Hernanes.
