Tottenham transfer latest: Club set to miss out on Hernanes; Holtby's possible Schalke return

Some of the latest transfer stories and more surrounding Tottenham Hotspur this Tuesday evening.

Tottenham look set to miss out on Brazilian midfielder Hernanes from Lazio according to TalkSport.

Instead the midfielder is close to securing a move within Serie A to Inter Milan on a four-year deal for a fee believed to be around £17million.

Midfielder Lewis Holtby could leave Spurs on loan during the January transfer window according to the London Evening Standard.

Holtby’s agent, Marcus Noack, claims the 23-year-old is looking for regular first team football having struggled to nail down a place in the Spurs side, with former side Schalke being talked about as a realistic short-term destination.

Noack is quoted as saying: ‘Lewis is desperate to play, which is why we are looking intensively for solutions.

‘Schalke is an interesting option.’

Andros Townsend made his comeback from a hamstring injury in an under-21 game against Newcastle United. Townsend scored and provided an assist for Souleymane Coulibaly as he played 45 minutes in the 4-1 win.

And finally, Michael Dawson said that Tim Sherwood let the side know he was not happy with the first-half performance against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

The score was 0-0 at the break, but only thanks to a penalty missed by Palace’s Jason Puncheon, and Dawson told the Tottenham website: ‘The main thing that Tim wanted was for us to show that fighting spirit and also to deal with the pressure. Crystal Palace are down near the bottom of the league and teams don’t come and lie down here. They worked their socks off in their first half but our quality came through in the second.’
