Liverpool transfer news: Defender set for loan move, Cissokho deal permanent?

A selection of the key transfer stories and more involving Liverpool Football Club on this Tuesday morning.

Defender Tiago Ilori is set for a loan move to Spanish side Granada according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Ilori signed for the Reds in the summer for around £7m from Sporting Lisbon but the 20-year-old has yet to feature for the first team. Valencia are also said to be interested.

The report also says Valencia and Liverpool do have a deal in place for Aly Cissokho to make his switch to Anfield permanent but that may be in doubt due to the full-backs form has left Brendan Rodgers unconvinced about the player.

Liverpool are in the race to sign Jorginho from Verona according to reports in Italy. Napoli seem to be winning the race to sign the midfielder, but the Reds are said to be looking at the player.

Steven Gerrard expects Raheem Sterling to force his way into the England World Cup squad in the absence of Theo Walcott.

Gerrard is quoted in several newspapers saying: ‘He’s in top form at a fantastic time. I’m obviously very disappointed for Theo with his injury but I’m sure Roy Hodgson is looking out for who is going to replace him and Raheem’s performances of late have been sensational.

‘He’s got all the tools to do it, it’s up to him now. If you are a full-back you don’t want to play against pace and especially when it’s coming at you all the time.’

Luis Suarez has told the club’s website that he believes the level Liverpool are performing at this season is worthy of Champions League football.

The Reds currently sit in the fourth and final Champions League place, a point ahead of Everton – and six points behind Arsenal at the top of the table.

The Uruguayan forward said: ‘It’s very important because we know that in the last two years we haven’t demonstrated that Liverpool can play in the Champions League.

‘Now we are playing very well and we have the level to play in the Champions League. We have really good players and if we continue at this level, we can do it.’
