Sporting Lisbon president ‘would be very happy’ if United man returned

Man United Nani

Recent stories linked Manchester United winger Nani with a return to Sporting Lisbon, and now their president has reportedly had his say on the rumours.

Reports at the weekend claimed Manchester United manager David Moyes was having a bit of a winter clear-out, with Nani, Anderson and Wilfried Zaha all tipped to move on either permenantly or on loan.

Stories claim the Brazilian midfielder could be on his way to Fiorentina while Zaha is reportedly a loan target for a number of Premier League clubs said to include Cardiff City and Newcastle United.

But what of Nani? Seemingly out of nowhere, the Daily Mail claimed the winger could return to his former club Sporting Lisbon on loan, once he has recovered from his latest injury.

This was something of a leftfield claim, given that Juventus were reportedly in the box-seat for the Portuguese international after Galatasaray were said to have dropped out of the race for him some time ago.

But news travels fast, and A Bola is now reporting quotes from Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho when asked of Nani’s possible homecoming.

The newspaper claims de Carvalho was somewhat surprised when asked about the link, but reportedly said, “If there is this possibility, I would be very happy.”

It was an obvious response from a man who may have been caught on the hop somewhat, given that the reports appeared to be fresh that morning. But with Nani’s United future in some doubt, a temporary return home may appeal to all parties, especially with Sporting in a three-horse race with Benfica and FC Porto for the league title.
