A star was born in Serie A last night, but he could easily have been dazzling in the Premier League.
AC Milan took on newly promoted Serie A side US Sassuolo last night, hoping to get a result to fire them back into the top 10 in the table.
They were left shell-shocked by a stunning display by teenage striker Domenico Berardi, 19, who scored four goals in a thrilling 47 minute spell.
Berardi already had 7 goals in 13 Serie A games before last night, but the game against Milan was truly his arrival on the big stage.
His 11 goals this season now matches Juventus' Carlos Tevez, a player he is likely to be playing alongside next season.
For the side really licking their lips at his four goal show were the Italian champions, who signed him last year for just 4.5 million, agreeing that he would remain at Sassuolo until the 2014/15 season.
So while they count their blessings they acted when they did, a side who once again have missed out on another potential superstar is Manchester United.
Berardi was on the radar of the club under Sir Alex Ferguson's management, a notion confirmed by Sassuolo when in Serie B last season.
"Domenico deserves attention; he has great qualities and he’s showing it. He has a contract with us until 2015 and if some big club should come forward we will see what is best for everyone."
Sir Alex Ferguson leaving the club seems to have like potential deals for Bruno Gomes and Lucas Evangelista, led to the club switching transfer options, and now it is too late.
The youngster could have come over of course and been another Federico Macheda, but if that meant firing United to a league title never to be heard of again, fans would probably take that right now.
