After losing four on the bounce, City seem to have found the winning formula away from the Etihad Stadium.
It was going to be their Achilles heel, as the fact that Manchester City lost four away games in the first half of the season seemed to leave a big question mark over their title credentials in Manuel Pellegrini’s first season in charge.
However, things have taken a turn for the better, and for City it may have come at exactly the right time.
Their form at the Etihad Stadium is amazing – in fact there are people struggling to think who will realistically stop the Blues making it 19 home wins in the league this season, with Chelsea looking like they are the side realistically in with a chance of denying City the perfect home record this season.
And now they seem to have sorted their away form out.
Although sides have found ways to breach the City defence, they have managed to outscore them by beating Swansea, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham recently, while conceding two goals in each game. Their performance yesterday against Newcastle showed their ability to dig out a result, even if there was some controversy attached to the result, rather than just overpower the opposition.
With City still to visit Tottenham, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton they may have sorted out their away form at just the right time.
It will be a great feat if City manage to take a total of 15 points from those five games; and it will surely set them on course for a second Premier League crown in three seasons. We will have a much better idea as to whether they have sorted out their form on the road or not come the end of the month.
