Manchester City continued their outstanding form to defeat Newcastle United 2-0 at St James' Park earlier today.
Goals from Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo secured the three points for Manuel Pellegrini's men, and sent them to the top of the Premier League table, one point clear of Chelsea and two clear of Arsenal (who play tomorrow).
Dzeko slid in to score the opening goal just eight minutes into the match, and the Blues then took control of proceedings. That was until Cheick Tiote had a long-range goal controversially ruled-out for offside, with his teammate Yoan Gouffran adjudged to have been interfering with play.
The Magpies had chances to draw level, but it was City who netted the vital second goal, Negredo ensuring the victory deep into injury-time.
The result means Newcastle remain eighth, while City will eagerly be watching Arsenal's match against Aston Villa tomorrow evening.
