United boss Moyes spotted at Juventus v Cagliari game - Who was he scouting?

Davide Astori, Arturo Vidal or Claudio Marchisio ... who was David Moyes watching this afternoon?

Manchester United boss has been spotted at a Serie A game today - as he was pictured among the crowd for the Juventus v Cagliari game.

All credit here must go to BeIN Sports Italian football correspondent Tancredi Palmeri, who also works with CNN and Gazzetta dello Sport, for taking the wonderfully eagle-eyed snap of the Scot at the Stadio Sant’Elia in Cagliari today to take in the splendours of a bit of Sunday afternoon Italian football.

It wasn’t the first time he has been caught out in such a way. He was spotted at the Atletico Madrid v FC Porto Champions League game in December - where he was rumoured to be checking out Koke of Atletico.

Bit of a trip to just watch a football game?

So what is the ulterior motive? Who was Moyes checking out?

Palmeri himself offered one possible target. The club are said to be looking for a new central defender in light of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic’s potential summer exits.

So the first rumour is that he was checking out Italian international Davide Astori of Cagliari.

Then of course there are certainly a few Juve players he might have been casting an eye on.

United have recently been linked with a ‘break-the-bank’ bid for Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal. A regular at Juventus he may be, but he is reportedly looking at playing in a more competitive league in the future.

He would cost around £40 million - so no wonder Moyes would want to see him in the flesh before sanctioning such a deal.

The other name cropping up is Claudio Marchisio. The central midfielder started on the bench - and he has often been linked with a move to United in the past couple of transfer windows.

Whoever it was he was watching - time will tell if he snaps them up?
