3-horse race to sign 'future French captain'

Manchester United 3

Kurt Zouma's agent has picked out only three clubs as possible destinations for his player – Chelsea is in the mix, but Manchester United is not among the chosen few.

St-Etienne’s Kurt Zouma is being watched by a host of top European clubs, including Premier League trio Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United. The English press reported on the trio’s interest as early as October and all the clubs are believed to have stepped up their efforts since then.

The 6ft 3inch defender is in the midst of serving a 10-match bad for a horror challenge, yet such is his talent that the youngster is almost certainly still going to be sold to a top team during the January transfer window.

The 19-year-old progressed through the St-Etienne youth teams before making his Ligue 1 debut in 2011, and has gone on to make 51 appearances in total for his current club, scoring four goals.

Zouma has also represented the French youth teams from U16 through to U21 level, with current national team coach Didier Deschamps describing the youngster as a future French captain. He is valued at roughly £10m, yet according to Italian reports his agent David Venditelli mentions his client is only interested in three clubs:

'It’s a three-horse race between Inter, Chelsea and Monaco. Serie A is an interesting destination, as are Inter, for the tactical growth of the lad', Venditelli is quoted.

'Of course he wouldn’t mind moving to the Premier League, hopefully to Chelsea, where he could work with Jose Mourinho or to Monaco in Ligue 1'.

The news will come as a blow to David Moyes as the current Manchester United boss is looking for a long-term replacement for Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

The signs are, however, that if Zouma comes to the Premier League, he'll be wearing a Chelsea shirt.

Would Kurt Zouma be a good signing for a top Premier League club ?
