Reports this morning claimed Benfica midfielder Nemanja Matic had agreed personal terms on a €35million move to Chelsea this month.
The story – from Portuguese newspaper O Jogo – then went on to claim that the midfielder was refusing to play for his current club against FC Porto this afternoon, and that confirmation of his move to Chelsea would be announced sometime tomorrow.
While there is nothing new to report on this morning’s claims of a January return to Stamford Bridge for the 26-year-old, it appears the claims he had not traveled with the team and had made himself unavailable are wide of the mark.
Matic was snapped arriving at Benfica’s ground earlier today, and it has since been confirmed that he will start arguably the biggest match of his season so far.
Chelsea fans will hope O Jogo were right on the other claim within their story, but they will have to wait a bit longer for that to be confirmed or denied.
