On this day: Fabregas could return to Arsenal and Walters horror show

Cesc Fabregas Barcelona

On the 11th January 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Tottenham, QPR, Chelsea and Stoke City.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 11th January 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 11th January 2013…

Fab return

Arsene Wenger was speaking of his belief that Cesc Fabregas would one day return to Arsenal. The former captain left the club in 2011 for a reported fee of £35 million.

But Wenger, who turned to English talent in the wake of Fabregas’ exit, felt he might make his way back to North London after two or three years in Barcelona:

“He's an Arsenal man. He loves Arsenal. He watches every Arsenal game. Barcelona was his home town where he grew up and you have to accept this, especially as Barcelona are the best team in the world. He won't return in the next two or three years but, after that, maybe.”

Redknapp v AVB

Harry Redknapp welcomed his former side Tottenham Hotspur to Loftus Road - for his first meeting against his old team since he was replaced by Andre Villas-Boas.

And they made a good fist of it.

They drew 0-0 in the clash against a Spurs team on a run of four wins on the bounce.

Now Redknapp is still at QPR - while AVB is unemployed.

Bad day at the office?

Ever had a howler of a day at the workplace? Yeah we all have, but as bad as Jonathan Walters a year ago?

Stoke City were pummelled by Chelsea at the Britannia Stadium and he missed a penalty - but also scored two own goals in a 4-0 defeat.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis stated after the game that Walters ‘had a bad day’.

Understatement of the season award goes too…
