What happened when Benfica took on Porto yesterday?
Benfica took on Porto on Sunday in an emotionally charged match in which fans and players paid tribute to the great Eusebio, who passed away a week earlier.
It was a match significant in the race for the Primeira Liga, with both sides locked on 33 points at the top of the table.
Not only a great match for the neutral, but one top scouts in the Premier League will have been paying attention to for players at both clubs are currently in demand.
On one side was Porto's €40 million valued Jackson Martinez, a transfer target for Arsenal to rejuvenate their strike options.
He went up against Benfica central defender Ezequiel Garay, again linked with a switch to Manchester United in the past week. Chelsea bound Nemanja Matic also started, as did Manchester City linked Eliaquim Mangala.
Between Garay and Martinez there was only one winner, with the Benfica man coming out on top.
Argentine defender Garay, previously of Real Madrid, helped the home side keep a clean sheet - and in doing so prevented prolific Jackson Martinez from getting on the scoresheet.
It was both sides' first league game of 2014, a match Martinez had gone into with a league record of 12 goals in 14 games including four in three games at the end of 2013.
The game finished 2-0 to Benfica, with former Bolton loanee Rodrigo opening the scoring, which will have done nothing to dissuade Zenit St Petersburg from wanting to launch a recently touted bid for his services.
Who would pop up and score the second? None other than Ezequiel Garay.
He out-leaped opposing centre half Eliaquim Mangala to head home in the 53rd minute, sparking wild celebrations, seen in the video below.
The performance will do much to convince David Moyes that the defender really is a player for the big games, and would be an ideal candidate to replace Nemanja Vidic. The problem is a rumoured big bid from Zenit St Petersburg which could take him from United's clutches.
Martinez has a record now of one goal in three matches against Benfica. Nothing for Arsenal fans to be concerned with regarding the prospective signing - but it was Garay who was the big winner yesterday.
