All the news, views and transfer rumours from Old Trafford this weekend…
Every morning we bring you a round-up of the latest transfer news relating to Manchester United, and this weekend was no exception. To read our United-specific transfer news you can find our Saturday report here and our Sunday report here.
The big news of the weekend was that United won and did so playing some impressive football.
The first half of the Premier League match against Swansea City suggested another Old Trafford shock was on the cards. But the reigning champions’ second-half performance was far better and goals from Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck secured the points.
There could have been further goals for Chris Smalling and Shinji Kagawa, but both missed when it was easier to score. While Adnan Januzaj proved, yet again, to be the star of the show, with an outstanding performance that inspired his teammates to greater heights.
Speaking to the BBC after the game, United manager David Moyes said he hoped it was the start of better things to come.
“I would like to think it would improve an awful lot,” he said of his team’s performances. “But you have to start somewhere and I think today was more like it.”
He did however reserve special praise for Januzaj.
“He’s been (fearless) since day one. I speak to him a lot and he tells me he can play anywhere, he would have no problem. He’s not a nervous boy.
“He needs teaching because he is still learning the game, but his natural talent and ability is up there with the best and I think in time he will prove to be that.”
Anyone who has seen the Belgian forward play this season would surely agree, there is something very special about him indeed.
After watching his own team win yesterday, today Moyes was in Italy to watch Juventus play Cagliari.
While it is unknown who exactly he was watching, the Mirror suggests Arturo Vidal and Davide Astori as potential targets.
Both players have previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford, although given Vidal’s outstanding form and recent contract extension, it would take an almighty offer (and possibly a huge stroke of luck) to get him.
And finally, quotes yesterday from the agent of reported United target Everton Ribeiro claimed the play-maker was a wanted man. To read the story in full, you can find it below.
