Arsenal saw their name linked with yet another new player yesterday as Juventus playmaker Sebastian Giovinco’s name was linked with a move to the club from Turin.
The ‘Atomic Ant’ has been out of favour in Turin this season - and is at serious risk of losing his place in the Italian squad for the upcoming World Cup as a consequence.
Arsenal are of course without Theo Walcott for the rest of the season - and are said to be targeting the 26-year-old for a potential six-month loan spell to act as cover for the player.
However it was also stated by his agent Andrea D’Amico, just hours BEFORE the speculation cropped up, that Giovinco would be going nowhere on loan this winter.
And he certainly didn’t mention Arsenal, despite being happy to drop one team name into the conversation:
“It’s a situation that’s never been considered. He has a contract that expires in 2015 and he’s very important to Juventus. If he ends up leaving Turin, it will be to a permanent destination, especially since he’s now proven his value. Fiorentina? They’ve never even asked about him.”
But there have been new developments on the topic of Giovinco and Arsenal overnight - as the big boss at the agency that represents him has waded in.
Giovinco’s agency is Pasqualin D’Amico Partners - and along with Andrea D’Amico - he is also represented by the sports lawyer Claudio Pasqualin.
He spoke to Tutto Mercato Web this morning and confirmed there was Arsenal interest - but that his client would not likely be making the move to The Emirates - or anywhere this winter for that instance:
“There is a request for information from Arsenal, but not an interest that goes beyond that. The occasion, however, it is useful to reiterate that Sebastian will remain at Juventus. It's nice that there are interests of this type but are likely to remain so."
