On this day: Nearly half want Wenger out, Sahin leaves and Taison rejects Blues

Nuri Sahin Penalty

On the 11th January 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 11th January 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 11th January 2013…

Wenger Out!

A poll with the Black Scarf Movement at Arsenal revealed that 46% of Arsenal fans no longer believed that Arsene Wenger was the best man to take the club forward.

Almost half of the respondents believed that Wenger should go - and this was just 12 months ago.

However, throughout 2013 Arsenal have accumulated more Premier League points than any other team - and it shows in their impressive league position.

Sah-out

Nuri Sahin’s uninspiring loan spell at Liverpool came to an end - as he went to Borussia Dortmund to finish the season.

He was snapped up by the Anfield outfit in the summer from Real Madrid - and was expected to play a vital role in the new style of play being implemented by Brendan Rodgers.

However that did not prove to be the case - as he struggled for football.

Days after leaving he thanked god for getting away from Rodgers - so this was certainly not a match made in heaven.

Knockout blow from Taison

Chelsea missed out on highly rated Brazilian Taison. The sprightly winger had long been linked with a move to The Blues - but he was instead snapped up by Shakhtar Donetsk for a £12.5 million.

Interestingly he was signed as a replacement for Willian - who was on his way to Anzhi Makhachkala for a record fee.

Willian of course is now a Chelsea player.
