Back in November, when Andre Villas-Boas was still happily ensconced in the manager’s office at Tottenham Hotspur, his club was linked with soon-to-be free agent Andrea Pirlo.
The Portuguese manager’s dismissal may have ended that idea, or perhaps the reports claiming Pirlo will sign a contract extension in Turin prove to be true, but either way, another suitor has reportedly joined the chase for one of the most majestic midfielders of recent times.
Sky Sport Italia last night claimed Brazilian club Palmeiras had attempted to sign the 34-year-old this month. The report said Pirlo had rejected the offer and now looks set to extend his stay with the reigning Italian champions.
But it appears that even at 34, Pirlo has admirers all over the world. And having previously been tipped to try his hand in the Premier League, perhaps a bid from Tottenham may not be as swiftly rejected. After all, in football as in life, one can only try…
