Manchester United have been strongly linked with Cruzeiro midfielder Everton Ribeiro for some time.
The Player of the Year in Brazil has put in some dazzling performances this season, and while his main position is on the right wing, the 24-year-old can comfortably play anywhere across the pitch.
His current club’s president, Gilvan de Pinho Tavares previously told Lancenet that any club wanting the player “will need to offer a lot of money to sign him”, but now the player’s agent has had his say, and his quotes will make interesting reading for United fans.
Website Sambafoot reports that Ribeiro’s agent Robson Ferreira has told Brazil’s daily sports paper Lance! that his client has two offers from England, one from Germany and one offer that remains undisclosed.
“Everton received official approaches to leave and his family are aware of this,” Ferreira reportedly said.
“Cruzeiro is part of the project for the player but so is Europe. Let’s talk to the board of Cruzeiro to see what we all think and take it from there. Football is dynamic; a lot can happen until January 31.”
It most certainly can, and while there is no proof that United are one of the English clubs to have reportedly made an offer, they have been heavily linked with a player who himself said he would prefer a move to Old Trafford over one to Real Madrid; high praise indeed.
For now there is no knowing if David Moyes really is interested in the player, or if this is simply a case of an agent trying to get the best deal for his client. But Ribeiro’s story looks like being one to watch in the months and years ahead.
