Blanc: I believe Chelsea and City target will stay at PSG

The Ligue 1 leaders’ coach has admitted he hopes Blaise Matuidi opts to remain in the French capital and spurns Premier League interest.

One of the most high-profile players on the continent with an expiring contract this summer is Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi.

With the France international available to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club now, the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City have been heavily linked with the enforcer.

Although it is believed that PSG are eager to keep Matuidi, there has been no update on where the player will play his football next season.

However, PSG coach Laurent Blanc has admitted that he hopes that the midfielder will pen a new deal at the Parc des Princes, and turn down any potential offers to move to England.

“It is not me that is taking care of that (contract renewal),” Blanc stated at a press conference.

“As the coach, I hope he will stay here. I think everyone is on the same wavelength and I think he will stay.

“Blaise also desires that and is negotiating.”

City’s options in the centre of midfield are relatively comprehensive, but Matuidi would seem to be an ideal fit for Chelsea – who look set to miss out on Fredy Guarin.
