Of course that was never going to be that simple - and they have now finally started conceding goals.
But even so, the way they were taken apart by Juventus in the top of the table clash last weekend, was certainly not what Rudi Garcia would have wanted to see.
One player who was in particulary bad form in that game was Brazilian left-back Dodo.
The talented young full-back suffered for 55 minutes of the game - before being hauled off for Greek international Vassilis Torosidis.
To make matter worse that change was kept permanent for the next fixture against Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia - and the Greek scored the winning goal in a 1-0 triumph.
Since then there has been some rumour flying around that Roma could be willing to part with Dodo on a loan deal until the end of the season - after this recent dip in performances and the form of Torosidis.
One team bound to be interested would be Tottenham Hotspur.
They were linked with the player in the summer - and are certainly in need of a left-back.
But despite the rumours and links rearing their head again this week, the players agent Roberto Calenda made it quite clear that Dodo was going nowhere this winter:
“There has been talk of interest from Tottenham and Turin? I do not know if some teams may have affected my client. What is certain is that if you ever have arrived requests to Rome, were rejected. We never talked with any team of such circumstances. Dodo is [having] a great time in Rome, is the holder of a second team in the difficult Italian league, now also qualified for the quarterfinals of the Italian Cup."
Tottenham will have to return to the drawing board for a left-back option then.
