This summer saw Arsenal involved in one of the most intriguing transfer sagas of the transfer window - as they got involved in the race for Gonzalo Higuain.
He announced on the final day of the La Liga season that he would be leaving Madrid - and two teams immediately popped up as the favourites to sign him, Arsenal and Juventus.
But when Juve signed Carlos Tevez it seemed Arsenal had a clear path toward snapping him up.
By the time he realised that he was flogging a dead horse in his Suarez pursuit it was too late, Higuain had joined Napoli as the replacement for PSG bound Edinson Cavani for a reported fee of £34.5 million.
Since then he has often spoke of his happiness at Napoli and his almost immediate love for the club.
And the fans really have taken to him. Higuain is vastly popular in Naples – with his face everywhere you turn in the football mad city.
"Yes, but I did not speak to them. They said Arsenal wanted to sign me, that they were there negotiating, but it was Napoli who bought me.”
So he never even spoke to The Gunners this summer.
The decision he had to make when Napoli came calling was whether to wait for Arsenal - or sign on with Napoli, who had been forthright in their interest in his services.
Today he was again speaking about his decision to make the move to Napoli - and was clear in his assessment of the move:
“In Madrid I had never heard a chorus for me at the stadium, at the San Paolo every time they scream my name is a unique experience. De Laurentiis convinced me with the project but Benitez has made a difference. I made the right choice."
His record of 13 goals in 22 appearances this season certainly seems to confirm that outlook - even if Napoli did tumble out of Arsenal's Champions League group.
