Brighton's Will Buckley named, as Leeds United look set on improving their wingers, with Jimmy Kebe and Cameron Stewart already in. However, Leeds United are set to lose out to Huddersfield and Burnley for targets Ashley Barnes and Nahki Wells.
Here is our round-up of all the important transfer news stories coming out of Elland Road.
1) In the latest transfer rumour, Brighton's Ashley Barnes may not be the only target from down south interesting Brian McDermott. In a tweet replying to the possible interest of Leeds United in Will Buckley, journalist Phil Hay hinted that something has been said but nothing concrete has been set in motion.
@Irish_Leeds interesting shout that one. Heard a whisper about him but nothing concrete so the honest answer is I don't know.— Phil Hay (@PhilHayYEP) January 9, 2014
As reported earlier in our Football League transfer latest section, the link to Will Buckley does seem like an ambitious move for Leeds and perhaps the interest is there, but with Sunderland sniffing around, it could become too expensive for them. The interest in Buckley along with the signings of Kebe and Stewart has prompted McDermott to kill any talk of Max Gradel possibly returning to Elland Road, which will be disappointing for some Leeds fans.
2) Huddersfield are very close to signing Bradford City striker Nahki Wells, while Burnley have completed the signing of Ashley Barnes.
Both strikers have been linked with moves to Elland Road, but perhaps with the new investment they could bring in someone more proven. Ashley Barnes has scored 5 goals in 22 appearances this season, whilst commendable is hardly the record of a top six striker. Nahki Wells may find the rigours of Championship life difficult, although promising, he is still unproven.
Leeds United could lose first team players Luke Varney and Dom Poleon on loan deals. Brian McDermott admitted during an interview with LUTV that there had been interest in the two players and with two already in, they could possibly make way to get more playing time. Luke Varney's time at Elland Road looks like it's coming to an end but Leeds will be keen to keep Poleon and hope he can develop into a fine Championship striker in the future, if not further.
Elsewhere, speculation has gone quiet over the possible link with Chesterfield midfielder Jimmy Ryan. 5 days ago we reported the possible link to the former Liverpool man, as tweeted by Sheffield based journalist Alan Biggs. The 25-year-old Ireland midfielder has been the star man for Chesterfield this season and Leeds apparently aren't the only club possibly in for him.
