Rooney, Eto'o, Torres, Aguero and Gerrard all feature.
Seven of the top 10 wealthiest players in England’s top flight ply their trade either at Old Trafford or StamfordBridge – with some truly staggering financial figures.
Top of the pile is Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney. Rooney may be enduring a frustrating season on the pitch, but his wages of £250,000 a week will certainly ease the pain a week. His earnings add up to an eye-watering £45 million, aided in no small part by a couple of lucrative sponsorship deals.
Next in the list, released by Wealthx.com, is Samuel Eto’o, the Chelsea forward, on £39m. A former employee of European giants Barcelona and Inter Milan, Eto’o also had a spell at mega-rich Anzhi Makhachkala.
It would, perhaps, be rather nicer for Chelsea fans if Eto’o remembered how to score again – he is currently averaging less than a goal every three games.
United veteran Rio Ferdinand (£37m) is third, followed by Chelsea duo Frank Lampard (£31m) and John Terry (£29m). Steven Gerrard muscles in on the Chelsea-Manchester United party, the Liverpool skipper ranked sixth with £29m.
Ryan Giggs has £27m, and the list is completed by Chelsea’s Fernando Torres (£26m), and ManchesterCity duo Yaya Toure (£25m) and Sergio Traore (£24m).
The list provides a neat snapshot of the global dominance enjoyed by the fashionable west Londoners, who have grown and grown under Roman Abramovich, and Manchester United, who remain the biggest football club brand in the world.
