Costa Rica star Ruiz set for La Liga move, while West Ham United youngster is still angling for Meulensteen reunion
The Costa Rica forward has been at Craven Cottage since 2011 but while his flair and link-up play has often impressed, he has been far from prolific in front of goal, only netting eight times in 73 Premier League appearances.
Real Betis are in pole position to land the 28-year-old who will be hoping to find form ahead of the World Cup where his national side are in the same group as England.
The La Liga club, currently bottom of the league, could offer £800,000 to take him on loan for the rest of the campaign, according to the Independent .
Ruiz has only started one match under Meulensteen, the 6-0 humiliation away to Hull City, and he is clearly not fancied by the Dutch coach.
The No 10 cost £10.6m when he arrived from FC Twente and his departure would make it less likely for Dimitar Berbatov to complete his much touted move to Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger refused to be drawn on the Bulgarian forward in his press conference today.
Meulensteen’s only other strikers are Darren Bent, who has yet to find form at the Cottage, and Hugo Rodallega, who has never been prolific.
However, as we reported earlier this week Brondby’s giant striker Simon Makienok is a target.
The England Under 21 man does not see himself having a long term future at Upton Park and Meulensteen is keen to resume the working relationship they had at Old Trafford.
The Hammers want to tie Morrison down to a longer contract, as his expires in summer 2015, but the former Manchester United youth player is not interested.
Sam Allardyce is under a lot of pressure following back-to-back cup humiliations at Manchester City and Nottingham Forest and would be extremely reluctant to sell to a relegation rival unless he was able to strengthen his own side.
Morrison’s fiery character makes it plausible that the midfielder could try and force a move this window, and West Ham know they could lose him on a free transfer if he stays beyond the summer.
The 21-year-old has impressed on loan at Accrington Stanley this season and after a brief return to the Cottage he is back at the League Two club until the end of the season.
The youngster from Camberwell is now tied to Fulham until the end of the 2015/16 season but will struggle to oust both Maarten Stekelenburg and David Stockdale in that time.
There has been no further progress on the mooted deal to sign Ryan Bertrand from Chelsea as yet.
