Some of the key stories surrounding Tottenham Hotspur and their transfers this Friday evening.
Lamela has struggled to adapt to life at his new club after joining the club for a record fee during the summer transfer window, but Sherwood thinks the Argentinian has a big future at Spurs.
He said: ‘We know what a talented player Erik is. We also understand that players need time to settle.
‘He needs time to acclimatise to this country. He doesn’t speak English and he isn’t used to the pace of the games, especially over the Christmas period when they come thick and fast.
‘We are going to take it nice and steady with him. I really want to put him on the stage when he’s ready to perform, rather than let people judge him when he’s half-cocked.’
One man who will be leaving White Hart Lane is Jermain Defoe, who had his move to MLS side Toronto FC confirmed today, and he’ll join up with his new teammates on February 28th.
Redknapp said: ‘We’d have him. We’d love to have him here, even if it was for only six weeks or so. He could come in and score you ten goals I’m sure, he’s that good. He can do a job for anybody.’
Tottenham’s match this weekend against Crystal Palace will go ahead despite fears of unrest near White Hart Lane as the vigil for Mark Duggan takes place an hour before kick-off.
Spurs said on twitter: ‘Contrary to reports there are no plans to call of tomorrow’s game vs Palace with the Duggan vigil scheduled for 2pm in Tottenham.’
Captain Michael Dawson is anticipating another tough game against the side they defeated by a single goal on the opening day of the season.
Dawson told the Tottenham website: ‘We know the style they’re going to play but it’s not about them, it’s about what we do.
‘Palace have picked up some good results in recent weeks and I’m sure they’ll be coming here and looking forward to it.’
