According to CalcioMercato.it Barcelona manager Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino met up with the agent of Chelsea target Fredy Guarin to discuss the future of the Inter Milan midfielder
The meeting supposedly took place over the European Christmas break, in which the Barcelona boss reportedly showed his appreciation for the Colombian international and is believed to have shared his interest with the agent over the possibility of taking him to the Nou Camp.
Fredy Guarin has been linked with Barcelona in the past, and at the beginning of December the Colombian’s agent Marcelo Ferreyra dismissed the interest as market rumours, nothing but speculation. He went on to explain how his client is concentrating on his Inter Milan career and that he’s not looking for a new destination.
However, it now appears that the general census has changed. Amid the on-going speculation regarding a potential move to Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea, news broke out during the meeting that apparently there had never been a concrete offer Stamford Bridge, and they hadn’t even mentioned any hypothetical contract situations.
The comments seem to contradict what Marcelo Ferreyra had told Colombian network Caracol radio – The Mirror reporting:
"We have already been to London with Inter and met with Chelsea directors to make their interest formal.
"If both clubs reach an agreement, a transfer is an option, but Fredy is happy at Inter as well if they don't agree terms. Fredy feels important under Walter Mazzarri."
It remains to be seen whether the comments from Guarin’s agent holds any water, or the likelihood is that he’s merely doing his job and trying to get the best possible deal for his client.
At the end of the day, the only issue that is certain is that the future of the Colombian remains in the balance, and should a deal not be sorted out this January between all parties involved, it will most definitely rumble on again during the summer.
