Manchester United man already working on finding new clubs - report

Macheda 2

Manchester United still have Federico Macheda on their books, but not for too much longer.

Federico Macheda was once the next big thing, now he is a forgotten man at Old Trafford, counting down the days.

The Italian will never be forgotten for his strikes back in 2008/09 which helped win the Premier League, but that remains - and presently seems likely to always be his career highlight.

He is currently on loan at Doncaster Rovers in the Championship, where he has the unimpressive goal tally of three goals in 12 starts and two substitute appearances.

His contract expires at the end of the season, and by all accounts he is looking forward to it, with a return to Italy mooted.

Macheda is now 22 and still highly thought of in his homeland, despite the unsuccessful loan spell he once spent with Sampdoria, he is viewed as one of Lazio's own, and a former Italian under-21 international.

Italian news outlets have been speaking to his agent, keen to know if he will be moving back to the country this January, but Macheda appears likely to wait out his contract and seal a move as a free agent.

His agent Giovani Bia spoke to Parmalive.com on Wednesday regarding his future:

"In January, he will not move. United are not going to loan him for fun. He will arrive in June when his contract expires. It's why we're working on for June where there are broader options.

"He's a player borin in '91 which is released on a free transfer and can be tempting to many: Parma, Chievo, Fiorentina, Inter and Bologna are all important solutions. Parma is my city and I wish the guy goes into a serious team."

Among the clubs mentioned, Inter and Fiorentina are certainly ambitious. Macheda needs a team who will give him regular opportunities.

Above all he needs stability. Former Arsenal prospect Arturo Lupoli has endured a desperately poor career since returning to Italy, now a reserve for Serie B side Varese, and Macheda needs to find the right team to avoid goinf the same way, and that means being realistic when joining a new side.
