Toronto FC have said they are planning major moves before the start of the 2014 MLS season.
Jermain Defoe has been linked with a move to the MLS with Toronto FC for some time now. It looks more likely than ever that the move will go through in January.
On the club's website they posted a link to a video boasting to fans they are about to complete a huge deal.
They also stated the date 13th January for when we can expect the news to be announced. Whether the news is just the signing of Defoe or perhaps Defoe or others we are unsure on.
The Toronto Star newspaper reported that the Defoe deal is done and he will be unveiled on Monday, the 13th. He will then return to Spurs on loan until March when he will join Toronto in time for the start of the MLS season. Spurs must presumably be looking for a replacement in this transfer window then.
The paper goes on to say that the announcement on Monday will include transfers worth £61 million. This however includes the fees and the salaries of the players over the course of their contract.
Michael Bradley of Roma who has been linked with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the past is rumoured to be another marquee signing for Toronto FC. The significant investment is an attempt to try and propel the club into the play-offs for the first time in their history. The signing of USA international Bradley would be an incredible coup, with the midfielder aged just 26, the Canadians will have him for his best years. More big signings could be set to follow
Record goalscorer Dwayne De Rosario is also lined up to return and should sign next week. There are also plans to expand their stadium; BMO Field. Toronto are hoping these investments can turn them into a major powerhouse, not just in the country but also in the continent.
The MLS continues to go from strength to strength.
