A selection of the key transfer stories and more involving Tottenham Hotspur this Thursday evening.

It’s looking increasingly likely that Jermain Defoe will be leaving Tottenham Hotspur to move to MLS side Toronto FC

The story that broke last night keeps getting reported today by various outlets, with Defoe said to have signed a deal worth £90,000 a week. There has been no official confirmation but Toronto coach Ryan Nelson is being widely quoted saying: ‘We are very close. It doesn’t take too much to turn a team around.

‘I can sleep really well at night knowing the situation we are in now.’

Any hope that Tottenham may have had in landing Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo appear to have taken a blow with the Serie A side set to offer the Italian a new contract, according to

Juventus chief executive Giuseppe Marotta is quoted saying: ‘At this time there is no possibility of selling Pirlo and Paul Pogba, even if Pirlo will soon be out of contract.

‘I can say, however, that we have a great rapport with the player [Pirlo] and that his contract will be extended.’

Jonathan Obika is about to start his tenth loan spell away from Spurs, and he has told the BBC he is looking to impress at his latest club, Brighton.

The striker said: ‘Whenever I think about the future I always think you have to get the present right. I’ll make sure I do well here and see what happens.

‘Loan spells make you mature quicker and you develop and grow as a person and a player.’

Away from transfer news, Tottenham face Crystal Palace at White Hart Lane at the weekend and defender Vlad Chiriches has told the club’s website about the importance of a winning mentality.

He said: ‘It’s very important to win and keep winning. That will help us with our confidence. It does help to have a good run of games where you’re picking up results.’
