Helder Postiga pounced to equalise for Valencia in injury time against Atletico Madrid.
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Helder Postiga is a hero in Valencia today after he scored a last minute equaliser against Atletico Madrid last night to keep his side well placed in the Copa del Rey tie.
Postiga is infamous for going on goal drought runs which are frankly remarkable for a striker, but he showed the sort of predatory instincts to pounce in the 93rd minute of the match to give Valencia a well deserved draw.
The tie is now delicately balanced ahead of the second leg of the last 16 encounter, taking place in Madrid.
It wasn’t the best finish you are ever going to see but it was an important goal nevertheless and he was able to release some of the frustration from the goal droughts he’s experienced in Spanish football.
He’s been a prominent player for Valencia so far this season with 14 appearances in La Liga, two in the Copa del Rey and five in the Europa League scoring four goals and providing a single assist.
Those are numbers he should now be very confident of improving over the second half of the season.
