Sunderland 2-1 Manchester United: Five interesting stats

Sunderland defeated Manchester United in the Capital One Cup semi-final first leg.

Here are five interesting stats to digest...

1) Manchester United had seven shots more on goal than Sunderland, but managed just one more on target.

2) Sir Bobby Charlton and Sir Alex Ferguson weren't even born the last time United lost their first three games of a new year, 82 years ago.

3) Darren Fletcher touched the ball more times in 14 minutes on as a substitute (28) than Emmanuele Giaccherini did in 56 minutes (22). Incredibly Fletcher also created three goalscoring opportunities in that time.

4) Sunderland's former Manchester United duo Wes Brown and John O'Shea blocked four shots between them, two each.

5) Michael Carrick made 107 passes, more than three times Sunderland midfielder Sebastian Larsson's 35.
