Napoli could turn attentions to Spurs' Capoue

After Napoli's failure to land Maxime Gonalons, they could move on to Tottenham Hotspur man Étienne Capoue, according to the Italian press.

Napoli received a big transfer setback when they saw their £14m bid for Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons rejected and they may now look to Tottenham for their new recruit.

The Azzurri have seen their Scudetto challenge lose pace and were dealt a harsh blow when they exited the Champions League despite collecting 12 points.

Club owner Aurelio De Laurentiis said after that disappointment that the club needed three or four new faces and he was willing to open his cheque book to bring them in.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Tottenham's French defensive midfielder Étienne Capoue has come on to Napoli's radar.

The 25-year-old isn't having the greatest of times at White Hart Lane and Spurs are likely to consider an offer from the Partenopei.

The report doesn't suggest the sum of money that might be needed to complete a deal but given the size of the unsuccessful bid for Gonalons, Napoli seem to have the financial resources necessary.

Capoue started his career with Toulouse and has represented France at Under-18, Under-19, Under-21 and senior international level.

He only moved to Spurs five months ago but an ankle injury sustained at the start of his spell at the club seems to have left him struggling to establish himself in the starting 11.
