Italy boss linked with Spurs

Current Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has been tipped to take over at Tottenham this summer by Italian TV channel Mediaset Premium.

Tim Sherwood was given an 18-month contract in December but Italian TV channel Mediaset Premium claim Tottenham may be lining up Italy boss Cesare Prandelli to take over at the end of the season.

Prandelli has an impressive CV, making his name with Hellas Verona between 1998 and 2000 by leading the Scaligeri up to Serie A then securing a ninth-placed finish.

The 56-year-old's most impressive achievements came at Fiorentina where he transformed a relegation threatened outfit into Champions League qualifiers.

Since May 2010, Prandelli has been in charge of the Italian national team and has been widely praised for rebuilding the side after a post-World Cup winning hangover, leading the Azzurri to the final of Euro 2012.

Prandelli is expected to leave La Nazionale's hot seat after the World Cup and is likely to look for another job in club management.

A large number of big European sides would probably jump at the opportunity of employing Prandelli and Mediaset Premium says Tottenham have an eye on him.

According to the Italian TV channel, Spurs' technical director Franco Baldini, formerly of Roma, is known to be close to Prandelli and may have already made contact with his compatriot.

There have been reports that Baldini is on poor terms with current Tottenham manager Sherwood and that they have fallen out over the appointment of a new chief scout.

Baldini's presence at White Hart Lane makes it a potentially logical destination for Prandelli but Mediaset Premium also claims Arsenal may be interested.
