White Hart Lane 4

Some of the key stories involving Tottenham Hotspur on this Wednesday evening.

Canadian newspaper the Toronto Sun has reported Jermain Defoe has completed his move from Tottenham to MLS side Toronto FC. Tottenham themselves are yet to confirm the news.

Tottenham will not be landing Fabio Coentrao from Real Madrid if Carlo Ancelotti’s words are anything to go by according to the Daily Express.

The left-back has been linked with a move to Spurs from the Bernabeu – though in recent days the reports in many sections of the press indicate a move to Manchester United is more likely.

Ancelotti is quoted as saying over the issue of several Madrid players’ futures: ‘I’ve not spoken with them because there’s nothing. No-one is leaving and no-one is coming in.’

Head Coach Tim Sherwood has said he is glad to get some rest after the hectic festive period according to London 24.

Sherwood took over as Head Coach ahead of the busiest period of the season where has had to deal with six games in 20 days.

The Spurs boss said: ‘It’s been an abnormal time to take over, I would say, because there has been no breathing spaces from game to game and we have had a lot of injuries.

‘I haven’t had time to dwell too much on anything, it’s just been a case of moving on to the next one.

‘It’s probably been a blessing, I’ve been to a lot of stadiums and managed a lot of games in a short space of time. Perhaps that’s never happened before.’

Spurs Academy have been playing in the Nutifood Cup in Vietnam and lost their second game of the tour today, a 2-1 defeat to Roma’s Under 21 side.

Academy Manager John McDermott said after the game: ‘There wasn’t much else we could have done today. I thought we performed very, very well in the second half and I was very proud of the way in which we played.’
