Liverpool's pursuit of Salah has been widely reported for a while

Liverpool face even more competition if they want to land Mohamed Salah from Basel.

Spainish outlet Mundo Deportivo has reported that Atletico Madrid are interested in the man who scored in both of Basel’s Champions League group games against Chelsea.

Other clubs that have been linked with the Egyptian winger include Manchester United, Chelsea themselves, Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg. Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be interested in the player.

Salah’s proposed move to Liverpool already has the feel of becoming a saga with some reports indicating that deal was very close not so long ago, and with fellow Egyptian Mido quoted as saying Salah is close to securing a move to Anfield.

Reports in the Daily Express today indicate Russian side Zenit St Petersburg are prepared to pay double the amount Liverpool are prepared to pay. The fee that has been attached to the Reds interest has been in the region of £7m.

Salah’s agent is quoted as saying: ‘Talks with Liverpool are ongoing. They want him. But they need agreement with Basel.’

It looks as though the Reds remain favourites to sign Salah, but they will want to get this deal sewn up quickly.
