Sport Bild has suggested that at least three more players could leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
Sport Bild has run a report suggesting Borussia Dortmund could be preparing to lose more key players this summer.
Striker Robert Lewandowski has announced that he will join Bayern Munich at the end of the season and a report on the site suggests BVB are eyeing up moves for Shinji Kagawa of Manchester United and Sami Khedira of Real Madrid.
There has been intense speculation surrounding the future of key midfielders such currently at the German club, most notably Ilkay Gundogan and Marco Reus with Seb Kehl reportedly unlikely to sign a new contract.
Both of those targets are understandable. Kagawa still has a very obvious connection to his former club while Khedira could favour a move back to Germany rather than going to another different European league.
“Mandzukic would cost 25 million Euros, however he stands by his contract in Munich and Bayern want to keep him. Manchester City star Edin Dzeko has also been on the list for a year,” reads the report.
“A return of Shinji Kagawa (24) of Manchester United is always possible - a possible successor to Kehl may be Sami Khedira (26) of Real Madrid.”
The same report also suggests that Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko could be in line for a return to Germany as an alternative to Mario Mandzukic if BVB aren’t able to land the Bayern Munich front man.
It will be interesting to see how the situation pans out but nothing is likely to happen until after the World Cup this summer.
BVB are in a situation where it would be disastrous for their hopes of silverware this season, if they lost further key players this month which means they are very likely to shut up shop until the summer transfer window opens.
They are also well represented in the media through officials of the club who are very bullish and up front when it comes to key players and the message for now is very clear; no one else is leaving, for now anyway.
