Arsenal reportedly re-opened talks with Real Madrid last night - in the pursuit of Spanish Under-21 striker Alvaro Morata. Arsenal are reportedly ready to offer Real a £2 million loan fee for the player in order to bring him in until the end of the season. It comes as Theo Walcott has been ruled out for six months with a ruptured knee ligament.
However, Arsenal have reportedly approached Madrid on a couple of occasions already to see if Morata was available - and on both occasions were told no.
So they are also being linked with an approach for Jackson Martinez. The FC Porto striker has recently admitted an affinity for the North London club and is said to be considering his future in Portugal. He is said to have a £33.2 million release clause in his contract and in the wake of Walcott’s injury Wenger is considering a more long-term striking option.
Other names being mentioned include Diego Costa, Salomon Rondon and Salomon Kalou.
French media are heavily reporting the Kalou interest today. The former Chelsea striker, who turned down a move to West Ham from Lille in the summer, but a move to Arsenal would be a much more difficult proposition to reject.
Liverpool and former club Chelsea are also being linked - with his apparent £3 million release clause a major benefit.
Arsenal and Manchester City are reportedly eyeing up Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk. The 22-year-old was snapped up for £1.6 million in the summer and is now set to be worth around £10 million.
Van Dijk may consider a move to heighten his chances of a place in the Dutch national team.
