Arsenal midfielder Gedion Zelalem has been tipped to sign a new deal with the club by the end of the month.
Likely Zelalem will sign that ‘long-term’ pro contract with Arsenal this month. Crazy considering he only signed this month last year.— AFC Academy (@AFCAcademy) January 7, 2014
The 16-year-old German has been a stand out performer for Arsenal’s youth teams this season, featuring in a range of different competitions; UEFA Youth League, the under-21 Premier League as well as friendly and cup matches.
He broke into the under-21 side last season, at a level way beyond his age group and earned a lot of respect for the way he played in matches against well established youth sides such as Liverpool.
He’s yet to score a goal for the club this season but he’s playing consistently in higher age group sides.
His impact since he originally linked up with Arsenal has been very impressive and he reached an agreement with the club this time last year, which tied him down until the summer of 2016.
However, that was not a professional deal and he is now being tipped to sign his first pro contract with the Gunners before the end of this month.
The length and nature of the deal is unclear at the moment but Arsenal’s Academy Twitter feed has tipped it to be a ‘long term’ agreement which should eradicate the possibility of any side coming in and poaching him away from the Gunners.
He’s one of several special players in the Arsenal youth system at the moment and it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise to see him on the verge of first team football over the next couple of years.
