Manchester United, Southampton, Chelsea and Everton men also feature.

We are just a week into 2014 but it is not too early to begin laying down a marker and predict the players who will shine over the next 12 months.

That is exactly what German magazine SportBILD has done, focusing on Europe's top five leagues, selecting a total of 27 players who they tip as 'breakout stars'.

There are several Premier League players on the list, including the first name on there - Arsenal's German prodigy Serge Gnabry.

They write: "In his performance against Tottenham, Gnabry, one of Europe's top talents showed that can make a big step away from a prospect, to become a star in this next year."

The Arsenal winger is joined on the list by Liverpool's Raheem Sterling who enjoyed a terrific December since returning to the first team, and may well be rewarded with a World Cup spot if he keeps his form up, especially with Theo Walcott out injured.

The pair were joined by Everton's Ross Barkley, and his on loan teammate Gerard Deulofeu. Adnan Januzaj of Manchester United predictably makes the list, while Southampton's Luke Shaw also receives recognition.

Of the several players Chelsea have out on loan, only one - Thorgan Hazard makes the list, with Lucas Piazon a glaring absentee.

27 players were named in total, and the full list is as follows.

SportBild's players to watch in 2014: Serge Gnabry (Arsenal), Jese Rodriguez (Real Madrid), Matthias Ginter (Freiburg), Mateo Kovacic (Inter), Aleksandr Mitrovic (Anderlecht), Gerard Deulofeu (Barcelona/Everton), Davy Klaasen (Ajax), Timo Werner (Stuttgart), Mauro Icardi (Inter), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Jonathan Tah (Hamburg), Domenico Berardi (Sassuolo), Ross Barkley (Everton), Adnan Januzaj (Manchester United), Michy Batshuayi (Standard Liege), Juan Bernat (Valencia), Thorgan Hazard (Zulte-Waregem/Chelsea), Luke Shaw (Southampton), Maximilian Arnold (Wolfsburg), Alvaro Vadillo (Real Betis), Hakan Calhanoglu (Hamburg), Viktor Fischer (Ajax), Max Meyer (Schalke), Leon Goretzka (Schalke), Adam Maher (PSV), Benjamin Mendy (Marseille), Jetro Williams (PSV).
