€40m, a striker who wants Arsenal, what are they waiting for?

Porto F1

Arsenal have once again been linked with Jackson Martinez, and should not hesitate to do a deal this month.

Arsenal are reported to have made contact with Real Madrid to sign Alvaro Morata on loan, but they may be better served flashing the cash.

Over in Portugal there is a prolific striker who is no 'hot prospect', nor waiting to hit his potential - instead he is peaking and perfect to fire Arsenal to the Premier League title.

That man is Jackson Martinez of Porto, for whom there is no complicated bidding to be done.

The Colombian striker has a €40 million release clause written into his contract, meaning Arsenal know exactly where they stand.

Martinez was playing in Mexico until two summers ago when he clinched a move to Europe, and has not looked back since.

He bagged 31 goals in his debut season, quickly filling the shoes of Falcao - and this season he has continued his progress.

To date he has 12 goals in 14 La Liga matches, and a further four goals in other competitions.

At 27-years-old he is a powerful striker who has the style to be an instant hit in the Premier League.

Not only that but he is keen to join up with Arsenal, admitting last weekend as reported by The Mirror to supporting them growing up.

"I cheered for Arsenal when I was a kid – I love their style of play," he said.

"It’s flowing and open with a lot of first touch passes. It would be suitable for a player like me.

"If I get a chance to play for a high level club like Arsenal I wouldn't hesitate to accept it."

Just last night the Mail reported that the Gunners are monitoring the striker, reporting they have 'enquired' after him in case a loan deal for Morata collapses.

That sounds like they are preferring to fix their striker problem on the cheap, and will only be pushed into a more expensive deal if there is no luck.

The club should really be pushing for Martinez in the first instance - regardless of the fact he is far more expensive.

Martinez is a striker who can fire Arsenal to the Premier League title, and even though he is cup-tied for the Champions League - that should be the priority.

Everton's Gerard Deulofeu, a Spain under-21 teammate of Alvaro Morata, took around three months to find his feet at the club since arriving, and that is the risk Arsenal run with the prospect.

Martinez is a striker who will cost a lot of money, but he really will be worth it - even if it means spending much of their summer money early. He says he wouldn't hesitate, so why are Arsenal?
