In early December a loan deal for Alvaro Morata to move to Arsenal seemed done and dusted, only for Arsene Wenger to reject the rumours outright.
The Daily Telegraph on the 30th December, explained however that Arsenal had 'not completely given up hope' in their pursuit of the Real Madrid striker. Since then there have been unconfirmed reports that Juventus have come in for the player, but at the moment there has been little substance behind that claim.
The bookies have remained unmoved on their stance and still class Arsenal as the heavy favourites to land the player this January transfer window, well ahead of rivals Tottenham Hotspur who have also been linked, and other potential suitors.
Latest odds on Alvaro Morata:
Arsenal - 1/1
Tottenham - 8/1
Athletic Bilbao - 16/1
Real Betis - 16/1
Fulham - 16/1
Alvaro Morata has only made one start for Real Madrid in La Liga this season, although he has come off the bench nine times. At 21 years of age, Madrid should be keen to let the player get more first team football and really push on in his development, despite their own lack of cover for Karim Benzema.
Arsenal have just been handed an attacking vacancy due to the unfortunate injury of Theo Walcott, and Morata could be a good replacement for Arsenal as they look to keep their title challenge going.
Arsene Wenger could surprise the world once again by spending the money needed to land Atletico striker Diego Costa, which would leave the Morata signing unlikely, but until he does commit to that sort of deal - Morata remains the option at the opposite end of the spending spectrum.
