Pro-Barcelona news source Sport has led with a report on their website relating to the futures of defenders Marc Bartra and Martin Montoya as well as current back up goalkeeper Jose Pinto.
All three players have contracts which will be reviewed in the ‘coming weeks’ as they expire this summer, which means there is pressure on Barcelona to get the deals done or the trio could all end up available as free transfers.
“The year has started with big duties for Barca’s technical secretary - sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta will start reviewing three contracts which expire in June; Marc Bartra and Martin Montoya José Manuel Pinto,” reads the report on Sport’s website.
The news will interest Tottenham Hotspur who have been linked with Bartra in the recent past as a player who could sure up their back line.
However, Bartra himself has said frequently throughout the season that he’s looking forward to forming part of the Barcelona defence for several years, which means before Spurs fans get too exited, anything other than a contract extension is unlikely.
The big side interested in Martin Montoya is reported to be Liverpool, with Brendan Rodgers apparently keen to add strength to his back four.
However, it’s a fairly similar situation because Montoya has not shown an obvious desire to leave the Nou Camp which makes the job of Zubizarreta easier when it comes down to the negotiations and getting a deal worked out for the 22-year-old.
Jose Pinto is the most likely to leave because there has been no indication that he will be given a chance as number one at the club, with the imminent departure of Victor Valdes.
Marc-Andre ter Stagen has rejected the chance to stay at Borussia Monchengladbach and he’s being strongly tipped to sign for Barcelona this summer after the World Cup, which could force Pinto to look elsewhere if he wants regular first team football.
