David Moyes has made the decision to release Fabio da Silva it is being reported.
Fabio da Silva has used up his final chance at Manchester United, it is being reported.
The Brazilian was sent off after just five minutes on as a substitute on in the FA Cup at the weekend, with United going onto concede a late goal to Swansea and crash out of the competition.
His timing could not have been worse. With David Moyes already floundering and needing to get ruthless, he has given the manager more ammunition to his belief he needs to sign a new left-back.
The defender has a contract which expires in June, and it is being reported that his red card was the final straw for his manager.
The Independent report:
"Fabio da Silva, a free agent this summer, will leave and any chance that he might be given another deal was ended with his self-defeating red-card challenge on Jose Canas in the 80th minute of Sunday’s Cup tie."
They go onto discuss the future of first choice left-back Patrice Evra, stating that his future depends on Moyes' success in bringing in a new man, with United having first option to extend his deal by a future year.
While that remains up in the air, the decision with regard to Fabio appears certain, if not yet official.
If the case then it's a sad end for Fabio at United, but not an unpredictable one. He has gone from a player who started the 2011 Champions League Final to surplus to requirements, never really able to dislodge Patrice Evra from the left-back position.
His twin brother Rafael da Silva, whose own contract runs until 2016, is unlikely to impressed.
Yet being ruthless is what David Moyes is going to have to do, and with Rio Ferdinand's future expiring too, Fabio is unlikely to be the only one shown the door.
