Linked to Arsenal because of primary right back Bacary Sagna's fast expiring contract at the Emirates Stadium and to Liverpool due to manager Brendan Rodgers' apparent admiration for his skill-set, 22-year-old defender Martin Montoya is not short of options should he decide against extending the terms of his current deal at Barcelona.
Montoya broke into the senior squad at Camp Nou on a consistent basis last year and has pushed on this season, making 13 appearances in all competitions, assisting twice, but it is his defensive statistics that make for the most impressive reading. From nine appearances in La Liga, Montoya averages over three tackles per game, has completed a total of 15 interceptions, 21 clearances while only giving away six fouls.
The youngster is free to talk to other clubs as he could be acquired on a Bosman transfer in the summer and, as quoted by Sky Sports, the Spaniard reiterated the fact that he is in no rush to commit to a new contract, prompting speculation he remains obtainable by Premier League clubs.
'There is no hurry for me to sign a new deal. Now I am at the best club in the world and I learn each day from Dani Alves. I believe that the negotiations are on the way but without pressure.'
It is believed that Montoya and his representatives will discuss his future with Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta this week.
