€9m Tottenham summer target to snub ex-Liverpool boss for Roma

Per Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Cagliari’s Radja Nainggolan will join Roma.

Tottenham Hotspur were linked with a move for the Belgian over the summer, but chose to instead pursue other options to bolster their midfield options.

The 25-year-old has remained hot property for Serie A’s top sides through the opening half of the campaign, with Isolani president Massimo Cellino conceding his inclination to sell the club’s prize asset in the past months.

Napoli, Juventus, AC Milan and AS Roma have all clamoured for his signature in view of strengthening in the January window ahead of the stretch run.

The Gazzetta dello Sport claimed on Monday that Nainggolan was close to securing a €9 million switch to Napoli to ply his trade under former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez.

However, Di Marzio has instead maintained that the midfielder is on the verge of moving to Roma after Cellino gave the deal his stamp of approval.

According to the Sky Sport Italia journalist, the Germinal Beerschot youth product has agreed personal terms on a four-and-a-half year contract at the Stadio Olimpico.

Nainggolan will land in the Italian capital 15.35 local time to undergo his medical, after which the transfer will be essentially concluded.

The fee for Roma’s capture of the Belgian hasn’t been named by Di Marzio, though it seems reasonable to suggest it will be in the region of €10 million.

Should the deal be pushed through, Nainggolan will join a talented midfield already containing Miralem Pjanic, Kevin Strootman and Daniele De Rossi.
