Midfield star Dan Crowley was the start of the show as Arsenal’s under-18 side thrashed Peterborough United in the FA Youth Cup.
Crowley was involved in all six of Arsenal’s goals, as he scored two and provided four assists in a superb 6-1 victory for the young Gunners.
Crowley has already been widely compared to current first team star Jack Wilshere and had several Arsenal officials and fans purring over his performance on social media site Twitter last night.
The Arsenal Academy Twitter feed claimed he’s the greatest prospect the club has ever had and commented that he was playing at a higher level to everyone else, while an Arsenal photography feed claimed his 25-yard curled shot for a goal was the best strike that person had ever seen.
Another pointed out that the only way the Posh’s youngsters could find to deal with Crowley was to kick him up into the air as soon as he got on the ball.
One of the great things about Arsene Wenger’s modern Arsenal is that the French boss has always backed himself and his academy officials to provide a sustainable production line of top quality younger players.
It’s still a little bit early for Crowley to be thrown in at the deep end of senior football but there is no reason why he can’t feature regular for the under-18 and under-21 sides, putting that pressure on Wenger over the next few years.
Take a look at the excitement he was generating last night.
Seems Crowley on another level tonight, more of these performances & stays clear of injury & he’ll be with the U21s by the end of the season— AFC Academy (@AFCAcademy) January 6, 2014
