Arsenal and Manchester United fans are probably growing bored of the names Diego Costa and Koke. There is no doubt an element of excitement, too, but that is likely to be trumped by the reluctant acceptance that neither player is likely to leave Atletico Madrid when they are enjoying their best campaign in years.
And now, Spanish football journalist Graham Hunter has had his say on the rumours linking the striker and the midfielder with the Emirates Stadium and Old Trafford respectively.
Speaking to Talk Sport earlier today, Hunter gave his assessment of both men, claiming that taking into account VAT, any deal for Costa will cost at least £40million, and stating that Koke would be a “great fit in the Premier League”.
However, given Atletico’s league form and Champions League progress, Hunter – along with plenty of others, it seems – just cannot see either player leaving this month.
“The club don’t want to sell,” he said. “My bet is that neither of these players can be levered out this January.”
It is something David Moyes has hinted at himself, stating that successfully navigating the January transfer window is a tricky prospect and suggesting most significant business will be done at the end of the current campaign.
So while deals for one or both of these players may still go through, Arsenal and United fans may have to accept that January comes a little too soon.
